National News: A gold urn worth Rs 1 crore was stolen from a religious ceremony of the Jain community held in front of the Red Fort complex in the capital, Delhi. This urn was made of about 760 grams of gold and about 150 grams of precious diamonds, rubies and emeralds were embedded in it. The incident has shocked the devotees and organizers. As soon as the theft was reported, the police started an in-depth investigation of the case with the help of CCTV footage and other clues.

Ceremony and theft incident

This religious ceremony of the Jain community was to continue till September 9. Organizer and businessman Sudhir Jain used to bring this urn daily for puja rituals. But on the morning of September 3, this urn disappeared from the stage amid a huge crowd present at the ceremony. Soon after this incident, the police scanned the CCTV footage and identified the suspect of the theft. Police said that the suspect is likely to be arrested soon and many important clues have been found in the investigation.

PCR call revealed

On September 3, a PCR call was received at the police station Kotwali, informing them that a gold kalash was stolen during the Jain Puja festival going on at the 15 August Park near the Red Fort. Investigation revealed that the kalash, weighing about one kg and worth about one crore rupees, disappeared from the stage. Police said that this incident of theft took place during the ceremony in the morning, when there was a crowd of devotees on the stage.

Suspect and previous record

According to sources, the suspected thief whom the police are preparing to catch may have committed theft in temples and religious events earlier as well. However, this allegation has not been confirmed yet. Experts say that incidents of theft are now becoming common in the posh areas of Delhi. Recently, the incident of snatching a gold chain from an MP also created a stir across the country.

As soon as the information about the theft was received, the Crime Branch of the Delhi Police intensified the investigation. Police said that after identifying the suspect, the process of arrest has been started and the accused is expected to be arrested soon. Police officials said that in view of the security arrangements and the safety of the devotees during the ceremony, a special team has been formed, which is searching for the suspect along with conducting a thorough investigation of the theft.

Devotees and organizers are deeply shocked by the theft incident. They say that Kalash was an important part of the puja rituals and its theft has also shaken the sanctity of the ceremony. Organizer Sudhir Jain has demanded strict action from the police and expressed hope that the theft case during the ongoing Jain religious ceremony in the city will be solved soon.
